Diabetes
We started the Annual Diabetes Nepal Professional Conference since 2010. The first meeting was done with the help of European Association of Study of Diabetes on 14th November 2010, which was inaugurated by the president, Dr Ram Baran Yadav. Since then, we have helped ‘Diabetes Nepal’ to hold annual meetings with the next one planned for the 26th March 2022. In recent years we have also held regional diabetes meetings in Pokhara, Butwal and Chitwan. We have also held separate meetings for nurses and nutritionist. About 25 International speakers have visited Nepal for this programme.
Surgery
We have assisted in the training of surgeons in Nepal with the help of many local organisations such as Dhulikhel Hospital, PHECT Hospital, Transplant centre and Society of Surgeons of Nepal. We have donated 5 Laparoscopic training simulators and have been organising Laparoscopic surgical Training in Nepal for the last 5 years. We have also started ‘Non-Technical Skills for Surgeons’ course every year for past 3 years and Anaesthesia for Laparoscopic surgery course.
Paediatrics
We work with various agencies and actively contribute to Nepal Paediatric Congress. In 2018 we supported a session in their meeting with the help of the Royal College of Paediatrics. Our focus has been on Neonatal Life-support training. This training has been conducted every year since 2016 at Dhulikhel Hospital in collaboration with North Tees and HARTLEPOOL NHS Foundation Trust and Sidra Medical and Research Center, Doha. We trained Nepalese doctors and now this is being conducted in Nepal. We have also been working with ‘So The Child May Live’ for Child Protection Training in Nepal. We helped Nepal Paediatric Society to conduct Child protection courses every year. We trained Nepalese doctors and now this is being conducted in Nepal.
General Internal Medicine: HExN began working closely with both the Society of Internal Medicine of Nepal (SIMON) and Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) to improve the standards of postgraduate training in medicine in Nepal. We have joint meetings every 2 years and at both occasions, the President of RCPE came to Nepal. This year we conducted a training session to assess the feasibility of conducting MRCP examinations in Nepal. We are in talks with the Federation to hold all 3 parts of the MRCP in Nepal, which will enable Nepalese doctors to take this postgraduate degree in Nepal and work globally. We hold regular meeting for Respiratory updates and early recognition of deterirating patients.
